About
I have been creating in some way for as long as I can remember, drawing and painting as a child (often on inappropriate surfaces….. like the dog….), I taught myself to sew at about eight on an old singer treadle machine.
I went to a state high school, and though the arts were not a focus at the school I was fortunate to have some exceptional teachers for visual art. During this time I began writing as well; always seeking means of expressing…. understanding my experiences.
I was also fortunate to have the opportunity to attend a
unique format of year 12 at a tech school, the focus of this course was decidedly on the arts, with the bulk of the curriculum being practical classes on a large variety of mediums, with art history and English literature the only academic subjects.
Another highlight of my schooling was participating in a soft sculpture workshop conducted by Mirka Mora, whose work I continue to admire.
By far my most precious creation, and the main focus of most of the years since my early 20’s is my daughter, now 15 and (often emphatically) assuming her independence.
Though she has been my primary focus, I have had various creative adventures during her childhood; a brief foray into the music world (I still occasionally play the thumb piano), several years doing live poetry performances, as well as beginning to become acquainted with the world of digital art.
So now I find myself able to widen and richen my focus, to indulge my creative self…….. and take it a little (but not too) seriously.
Some of the creative forms I enjoy are;
nature photography; mainly digital but I have occasionally had an slr in my hands,
painting,
drawing, particularly animals and plants
mandalas, usually circular, both hand painted/drawn and digitally created.
